A phenomenon that appears in hierachical organziations: every request is always priority number one. But, as the old adage goes: When everything is top priority, then nothing is.

But do you now what is a good forcing function, to learn about how much of a priority something really is? When you, the pleb on the bottom of the hierachy, need something from one or more layers above you.

In a recent article on measuring productivity James Shore made a remark, that I found very lucid and honest for somebody with a VP of Engineering title: Turns out leadership teams like accountability more when it’s other people who have to be accountable. Go figure...
